Just Looking....
Looking for a Christian church you may come across a statement like, “We are a Bible-based church.” All Christians begin with the Bible. A Lutheran Christian immediately asks, “What does this mean?” That a church gets its teaching from the Bible does not provide much clarity or, alone, establish any credibility. The more helpful question to ask is, “How do you read the Bible for meaning?” Obviously, people read the Bible and come to different conclusions about what it teaches. This is not a problem with the Bible. It is a problem with people.

About the Bible
The Bible is a collection of texts that arose from within a community of faith. These texts are intended to be read not merely by individuals but by people living in community. Reading is one thing, interpretation is another. Immanuel Lutheran Church is a Confessional Lutheran Church. That means we subscribe to the historic Lutheran Confessions, a collection of texts contained in the Book of Concord dated 1580 A.D. These writings are not our Bible, rather they speak to the question of how we, as a community, read the Bible for meaning.

We read the Bible and confess our faith, making public what we believe the Bible teaches, among other things, about who God is, who we are as human beings, who Jesus is, how we understand our relationship to God and how we practice our faith and live our lives. Ours is a rich, substantial, mature faith. Rooted in the Bible, deep in the ancient apostolic teaching, seasoned in community conversation, our confession has stood the test of time over 400 years.

If you are looking for a Christian church that can bear the weight of your most difficult questions and provide you the sure foundation of a mature faith then we invite you to find your faith home here with us at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
